The human story brings Aldrin's insights and knowledge to the fore, to the point that readers new to SF may find the technical bits hard going, but the alien story brings it all back down to earth, albeit on another planet. I wish he would return to spaceships and discard magical amulets. In the case of Tor, for example, I’ve been very pleased with their long-term strategy for promoting my work (and me!), and that has its value as well, in terms of the overall health of my fiction career.
